Dr. Michelle A. Hale
Education
Dr. Michelle Hale holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Leadership with an emphasis in Instructional Technology and an M.S. in Human Environmental Sciences with an area of study in Interactive Technology from The University of Alabama. Her undergraduate degree is a B.A. in Art with an emphasis in Graphic Design from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Teaching Experience
Dr. Hale's teaching experience is focused upon the successful use of interactive and instructional technology in a variety of fields. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Institute for Interactive Technology in the College of Human Environmental Sciences at The University of Alabama. Courses currently taught are: CSM 562: Cognition, Strategies, and Technology, CSM 564: Digital Tools, CSM 566: Multimedia Design and Development, CSM 572: Needs Assessment Planning & Evaluation, CSM 576: Collaborative Tools for Project Management, CSM 582: Non-thesis Research, and CSM 583: Special Problems in Interactive Technology.
Professional Experience
Dr. Hale spent more than fifteen years in marketing communications in the high tech industry before transitioning to academia. She was Marketing Communications Director of the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics (NASDAQ: MENT) prior to that move. Throughout the various phases of her marketing career, Dr. Hale was responsible for marketing teams and programs, sales training and conferences, web presences, and collateral. She has managed global distributed marketing teams, using interactive technology for communication, management, collaboration, and development of all marketing-related tasks. Her duties also included supervising the determination, installation, and management of technology-mediated communications.
Research and Service
Dr. Hale is interested in promoting the integration of technology into marketing plans, business communications, and management strategies. Other research interests include all facets of cognition as it relates to computer-mediated learning, technology's role in virtual leadership, generational differences in the use of technology, and social media as an element of a business plan. Dr. Hale serves as consultant to various businesses, providing guidance and direction toward integrating technology into their existing educational, communication, and marketing plans.
